Volunteering is an integral part of the Riverwood program. We rely on our volunteers to serve as the foundation for our classes. Without the many volunteers that we utilize each day, many of our students would not be able to ride. In a class of four students, we may need as many as twelve volunteers! Some of our students require both a leader and two side-walkers to help them stay balanced during the lessons. The leaders are in charge of keeping the horses at a safe and even pace while the side-walkers assist by either supporting the student physically or providing encouragement and clarification. Although some of our riders are a little more independent, we still need volunteers to be able to make the lessons as safe and effective as possible.

Class volunteers must be at least 14 years old, able to walk and stand for 1 hour, and be willing to commit to a [minimum] of one class a week Monday through Friday for a minimum of 8 weeks of service. While a history of horsemanship is welcomed, it is not required in order to be a good volunteer. Volunteer orientations are held every other month and can be found on our event calendarAfter attending a volunteer orientation, you will have the knowledge you need to start working with our riding community.

Riverwood also welcomes volunteer groups several times a year for a variety of projects on the farm. We host business groups, school groups, church groups, etc.  We also have volunteer opportunities in The Coop during the first full week of every month. If you are interested in joining any of our volunteer opportunities, please fill out the form below or contact us at info@riverwoodtrc.org or call the office 336-922-6426.
