Boots and Brews Fundraiser

Please join Riverwood for an evening out in support of our equine-assisted programs for children and adults with special needs! On Saturday, October 14, 2017 Riverwood will host its largest fundraiser of the year, Boots and Brews. It will take place at the BB&T Ballpark from 6:30-9:30pm. Admission can be purchased online here or mailed to the farm for $40 each. Please remember that no tickets are sold at the door; you must pre-purchase your admission by October 4. At Boots and Brews, guests will enjoy great company, local craft beer, wine, dinner and dessert as well as live music by Reel Shady. You can also win big in the 50/50 cash raffle, or take home one of the unique items in our silent auction.

All proceeds from Boots and Brews will benefit Riverwood’s equine-assisted programs, which enrich the lives of more than 120 individuals with special needs each week. Thank you for your participation in this important fundraiser for Riverwood and for sharing this fun opportunity with friends and family!

Registration and Information on Upcoming Grief and Loss Workshops

Grieving, Understanding, and Healing through Equine Facilitated Therapy

Riverwood Therapeutic Riding Center is pleased to partner with Donna Hampton, LPC to offer a series of workshops focusing on experiencing grief and loss at any life stage. Working with the Riverwood horses, participants will develop self-awareness, focus and communication essential to the healing process. Attending to grief and setting boundaries can be challenging; learning from the horses in a natural environment is an essential part of these workshops. This 3-part series will allow participants to journey through the process of grief and loss in the following workshops:

September 9, 2017: Reactions to Loss and Grief: Understanding and validating the process

October 14, 2017: Different experiences of grief: Developing strategies to help along the journey and engage support systems (Registration deadline extended to Thursday, October 12)

November 18, 2017: Experiencing grief and loss during the holidays and memorable occasions

  • Workshops are open to all ages. Families, couples and individuals are all welcome. There will be age-appropriate activities for all participants – even for very young children. Participants can register for one workshop or are welcome to attend all three.
  • An emergency medical form, photo release, liability form and basic health history form is required for each participant. Parents must sign for those under 18 years old.
  • No riding is involved and participants do not need any horse experience. Workshops will be small group format.
  • Boxed lunches can be ordered at an additional cost or participants can bring their own lunch. A lunch time will be built into the schedule.
  • Each workshop will run from 9:30-12:30 with check-in beginning at 9:00 AM and the farm will be open until 1:00 PM.

Space is limited and registration for each session ends two weeks prior to the date of the workshop, however, the registration for Session 2 (Saturday, October 14) has been extended to Thursday, October 12! The cost per participant for all three sessions is $285.00. The cost per participant for an individual workshop is $95. Children under 10 years old are free with a paying adult. Cancellations will be refunded if the space can be filled off the waiting list. To qualify, cancellation notice must be given 5 or more days prior to the session.

When you’re finished adding sessions to your cart you can “checkout” via credit or debit card. You will also need to complete this registration form and email it to rtrc@windstream.net to finalize your registration. If you prefer to register offline, you can print and mail your completed registration form and a check or cash payment for these workshops to Riverwood at 6825 Rolling View Drive, Tobaccoville, NC 27050. More about Donna – Donna Hampton, MS, LPCS, LPC, NCC, EMDR-Certified Therapist, worked for 18 years as a Counselor, Group Facilitator, and Director of Hospice & Palliative Care Center’s Grief Counseling Services. She established her own private practice in 2016 and continues to find immense meaning through her ongoing work with clients who have experienced grief, loss, and trauma. Community Care Luncheon Fundraiser

The annual Community Care Luncheon fundraiser benefits programs at Riverwood Therapeutic Riding Center. This event allows current members of the Riverwood family to act as “table captains”, who bring new faces to learn more about the benefits our equine assisted services for individuals with special needs.

This year, we are delighted to have a disabilities advocate from our community and a Riverwood parent who will share their personal Riverwood stories and provide an insightful presentation. A delicious meal catered by Carrabba’s will be provided, and guests will be asked to make a donation in support of Riverwood at the event. This is a wonderful opportunity for members of the Riverwood family to share their enthusiasm and passion for our work with other benevolent members of the community. In turn, Riverwood develops deeper connections with current volunteers and donors, and establishes friendship with new supporters in the community. As our support system grows, our programs and outreach can too!

Highlights:

  • Table hosts bring 7-9 guests to fill their table
  • Guests hear from a variety of speakers, each sharing a unique perspective about the impact Riverwood’s programs make in our community
  • Visual presentation played on big screen
  • Lunch is catered by Carrabbas

Each year there are many ways you can participate and help make our Luncheon a success. There are several levels of event sponsorship available, ranging from $250 – $2,500. Volunteers Needed

If you are interested in learning about horses, working with individuals with special needs and spending time outdoors, consider becoming a Riverwood volunteer! We are in need of volunteers to serve as side-walkers for our summer and year-round programs. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and attend an orientation to undergo basic safety and side-walker training. Our next orientation is Saturday, October 7 from 9:00-11:30am. Horse experience is welcomed, but not required, as you will be taught everything you need to know during orientation. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer but are unable to attend, please call the office at (336) 922-6426 – we are willing to schedule additional orientation times to accommodate you.
